Raise 1000, a new Cambridge-based initiative to raise money for Leukaemia Research through music was launched in February 2006 with a musical banquet that raised an impressive £3,300.
Fifty diners attended the musical event organised by Athena Wu. They were treated to a nine-course banquet and 27 different performances on 16 types of musical instruments.
Aside from fundraising, Raise 1000 hopes to highlight the profile of Leukaemia Research by involving as many individuals and music groups.
Musicians and performers who would like to join in Raise 1000 can do so by registering online at www.Raise1000.org

The phenomenal success of the ‘Calendar Girls’ film has ignited a huge fundraising effort from Branches around the country. Collections in cinemas and theatres up and down the land have netted thousands of pounds in donations and contributions, as well as many new contacts. Our determined volunteers have also sold well over 14,000 calendars, contributing greatly towards the success of this unique promotional opportunity. Some have even dropped their own clothes in the name of publicity! So - if you look in your local newspaper (particularly if you live in the Bromsgrove area) beware of a big surprise!
